(surfers) united

on our big surftrip to indonesia this summer we got to know many “bilateral surfercouples”. it was so beautiful to see how the world slowly but surely starts to unite. I’d love to have a group photo with all of them.

there have been l. from indonesia and m. from japan, then p. from thailand and t. from germany, e. from indonesia and t. from belgium who have a baby now and so on and so forth – just beautiful!

my blog doesn’t have enough traffic to do that, but I’d love to have hundreds of pictures of couples who are from different countries and doing fine! if you are such a couple or if you know one, please help me out.

I hope to have a nice collage or picture-video of many of us soon :)

“eating one week motorbike”

dear surfer-fellows traveling on a budget: do not have dinner in one of the fancy restaurants at jimbaran beach! what a mistake – *lol*. first of all, it wasn’t really nice (the food for 10.000 rupees at kuta beach is way better!!!) and second, “we have been eating one week motorbike” like my bf put it aptly ;)

I hope he will get used to the asian food. until now, he’s not in it at all. he’s searching for food he likes everywhere, but there is no tajine or couscous in indonesia – only rice three times a day. hell, and hes misses the bread…

from morocco to indonesia

finally, after three exhausting flights, we landed in bali. a friend of a friend of mine picked us up at the airport, really cool, because we landed after sunset and it’s always better not to look for a room at night. she managed everything for us in advance – wow! thanks dewi!

but we will move from jimbaran to kuta, because it’s much cheaper there. hopefully we find a somewhat nice place for some nights. I don’t really want to stay in or around kuta for too long. the tourists crack my nerves. I know, we are tourists too, but you know what I mean.

I’d rather be in a small village with some nice suferdudes and -girls, nice locals, a good surf during the day and a cold bintang in the evening. hopefully I can convince my bf to go to medewi for some days – he’s not really into it yet, because he’s afraid that the lefthander might be too small for him, which could be true, but for me it would be PERFECT!!!

that’s the thing when you travel together having different surf skills. but I hope we will not fight too much about it. if you are in or around kuta, let us know. maybe we can join for a session or a drink! :)

airline troubles

yesterday I received a mail from seat24 that etihad airways didn’t accept our request to take our surfboards on the flight from kuala lumpur to denpasar and back. AND… hold on! today I got a mail from air asia that they will suspend their flights from denpasar (bali/indonesia) to clark (philippines) from june 15th on. if there are still seats available, we can MAYBE fly with another airline and they will book it for us or money back. fair enough!

but what to do now really? we can only stay 30 days in bali, no visa extension possible for my bf due to his place of birth. AND WITHOUT OUR BOARDS it makes no sense at all to fly anyway, because we don’t have the money to buy new ones in bali nor do we want to rent and pay for shitty boards when we got amazing (custom) ones back home! AAARGH!!!

yeah! 30 degrees celcius, sunshine, blue sky and my surfboard in the garden melting… :) my baby really needs new wax, it’s sooo dirty… *lol*

so I did it! just now I booked our flights from morocco to bali, from bali to the philippines, from the philis back to bali and from bali back to morocco. we will stay for 8 weeks from july till september!

if you know any cheap and nice places we could stay, it would be very cool if you could leave us a comment – thank you surferfriends all over the world! hope you also planned your next surftrip already :)

anyway, let’s start with the “seven interesting things about myself”:

* born christian, long-time atheist, thinking about converting to judaism now, engaged to a muslim (interesting enough?)

* surfing is pretty much everything that’s on my mind since I started taking this “drug” in september 2009

* I have lots of piercings and some tattoos (but I will take out most of the piercings soon maybe)

* I used to be a music journalist for a rock magazine and I’m known for talking on the radio

* I quit my job, I’m studying again and shanti is coming back to me :)

* I’m falling in love with the idea of having our own surf restaurant/shop/camp

* I want a baby… (omg-d, it’s getting personal, good that there’s no 8th interesting thing I have to write down now) ;)

the thing is… as much as I love sunshine and salt water… the combination “devours” my hair! what shall I do? put oil in it before my sessions? coconut butter? conditioner? shave it? ;)
